Victorian Conservatories North East and Cumbria

ParamountVictorian ConservatoryThe Victorian conservatory, with its sharp sleek lines is practical and elegant in design. An eternally popular style, the sheer flexibility of the Victorian means that no two designs need ever look the same.

There is a certain timeless quality to Victorian conservatories and the addition of stylish French doors will definitely add a pleasing touch, as will the use of coloured glass in those windows that open. You will spot a Victorian conservatory by the curved bay at the front (typically with between 3 and 5 facets).

A pointed roof makes Victorian conservatories taller which tends to give the impression of extra space. It also serves to help the conservatory to blend naturally with a property from a period house to a new build.

Victorian design

Victorian conservatory design is in the middle of the Georgian conservatories and Edwardian conservatories. The Victorian design reflects the advancement of technology which meant that more and more daring constructions could be attempted.

Victorian conservatories are incredibly popular and are in particularly high demand among owners of older properties (especially those that were themselves built during the Victorian era.) A Victorian conservatory will typically fit well with larger properties but they are not suitable for bungalows.

Think not only about how the conservatory will suit the rest of the property, also consider how the furniture will suit the conservatory. Both of these things should be considered before you make a final decision on shape and size of your conservatory. The only real downside of a Victorian conservatory is that the smaller sized versions do not accommodate large pieces of furniture. This is due to the shape, moving from hexagonal at the furthest extreme from the property to rectangular where it meets the home. If you intend to house large pieces of furniture and Edwardian design, which is rectangular throughout, may be more suitable.

Victorian conservatories are typically made from one of three materials; uPVC, aluminium or hard wood. Think about the age of your property when choosing the material. Aluminium and PVCu look great on modern properties but a hardwood finish may be more in keeping with period homes.
