Although technically the term sash windows should be used to describe any window made in this way, it is more typically used to describe windows with a certain style of movement. Sash windows will generally open by sliding the glass panel, normally vertically. This style is popular all over the UK but is also known as the “Yorkshire light”.

The most common design for a sash window has two panels, each made up of 6 panels. This is by no means the only style though.
